The Jellyfish Theatre
“Imagine Noah’s ark sitting in a school playground in London and you get some idea of what Britain’s first recycled theatre looks like. One end resembles a ship’s stern, the other a prow made of discarded doors and chairs. I can’t improve on what the Guardian’s Jonathan Glancey called The Jellyfish Theatre: junkitecture. And I can only echo his praise for the capacity of the Berlin architects, Kobberling and Kaltwasser, to make imaginative use of everyday materials, including timber pallets. The building, which will be dismantled in early October, is a disposable triumph.” Michael Billington in The Guardian

The Games are Open takes the form of a larger-than-life bulldozer – with shovel down, it faces the expanse of interim lands awaiting future development along Vancouver’s South East False Creek. Exposed to weather, soil, and the passing of time, the wheat board construction will give way to a process of gradual decomposition, its form providing fodder for new growth. more

Cars into Bicycles
We occupied several parking spaces at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California and temporarily turned them into an outdoor car-dismantling and bicycle- constructing workshop as we converted an old red Saab 900 turbo car into two fully operational bicycles. more

The work "crushed cayenne" is a cynical answer to the hedonistic consumerism and lifestyl in the 21th century. Build out of found material "crushed cayenne" is a one to one model of a crushed SUV. These cars become more and more popular in the last years, and almost each car producer has developed it´s own SUV, altohough they use a lot more petrol and space and produces more CO2 output than "normal" cars. more

In Olevano Romano the busstop is also the point to meet. The old busshelter got a new roof out of 1000 of plastic bottles , structured like the tiles of the houses in the neighborhood, the new roof is also a reminiszenz for the colorful windows of the many churches nearby. more

An SUV will be reconstruced using light-coloured wood and then parked on the central reservation in Neukölln, Berlin. Over the course of four weeks, this reconstruction of the huge, tank-like Audi Q7 will occupy a number of parking spots. The exposure to the natural elements will cause the wooden structure to swell up, warp and gradually degrade to become white trash. more

In a pilot project we began to sell emissions rights to private vehicle holders at a fixed price. The more drivers there are using cars, the more they have to pay to non car- users who do not leave emissions. Thus people who avoid flying or driving can earn a monthly income of up to 1500 Euros from the sale of pollution rights. This income would enable people to make a living from reducing environmental degradation. Avoiding the creation of harmful emissions would make an immediate impact on private lives.

Beworben werden die SUVS mit Worthülsen wie Freiheit, Grenzenlosigkeit und Individualität wirken sie im städtischen Umfeld irgendwie deplatziert und an den Erfordernissen vorbei geplant. Ursprünglich dem militärischen Umfeld entstammend zeugen die SUV’s eher von Eingeschränktheit und Abkapselung als von Grenzenlosigkeit. Es sei denn, es geht darum, aus der sicher abgeschotteten eigenen Situation heraus, die Grenzen anderer zu überschreiten. more

For Anselm Dreher´s bottth at Art Forum Koebberling and Kaltwasser used materials from the IFA, the world’s largest Consumer Electronics trade fair that took place shortly before Art Forum Berlin. Most of the materials used to build the stands at IFA go in the trash after the fair. more

Folke Koebberling and Martin Kaltwasser carefully measured and mapped the spaces throughout Nottingham city that escape the gaze of CCTV cameras. The surveillance-free areas, much smaller than what the artists expected, were marked as 'blind spots'. Each of these spots became the floor plan of a small wooden structure available 24/7 to anyone as a room for "un-determined acts". more

Über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Monaten haben Kaltwasser/Köbberling in einer Serie von Interventionen die materiellen, sozialen und ideellen Ressourcen des Hansaviertels aktiviert. Dabei haben sie u.a. die Konzeptionen von Gemeinschaftsräumen und öffentlichen Grünflächen interessiert, die für die Planung des Areals zentral waren. Ein Bauwagen, der nur gemeinschaftlich verschoben werden kann, stand als mobile Einheit und offener Raum zur freien Nutzung im Mittelpunkt des Projektes. more

Im Rahmen des "Pilotprojekts Gropiusstadt" enstand als temporäre Intervention von Köbberling und Kaltwasser nun auch ein solches "Über-Nacht-Haus"...
